SWING SHIFT

Any idiot can knock a building down. You're being paid to leave the chapel standing.

About this game

Dusk. A crane. Ten tonnes on a wire. You're the operator on the demolition crew's swing shift, and the ball doesn't answer to you — it answers to gravity. You drive the trolley; physics does the rest.

How to play

  • A/D or ←/→ drive the trolley along the overhead rail. W/S or ↑/↓ winch the cable shorter or longer.
  • Mouse: hold the button and the trolley chases your cursor, cursor height sets the cable. The wheel winches too. Touch is the same one-finger drag.
  • Pump it like a playground swing: drive the trolley the way the ball is already going, and turn around when the ball turns around. That yank at the top of each arc is what makes it climb. Shorten the cable mid-swing for extra whip; pay it out to reach the low floors.
  • A slow ball just thuds off the wall. Only a fast one breaks concrete — you'll see it glow.

The job

Every contract marks the building for you: red is condemned — flatten all of it. Gold is protected — heritage facades, occupied floors, one very unfortunate rooftop chapel. Debris counts: collapse nine storeys onto a protected annex and that's your fault. Three strikes and you're escorted off site.

Eight authored contracts — the cannery, the dry dock offices, the foundry stack, the Chapel of Saint Ivo in a rising wind — then the shift goes endless: taller buildings, more gold, shorter clocks. Payout is the score: dollars per block down, a combo for fast work, precision and clean-sweep bonuses for touching nothing you weren't paid to. Total payout goes on the leaderboard, and there are five badges to earn, from Punch In to an eight-block Chain Reaction.

How it was made

Dropped in one session on 14 August 2026: Claude Fable 5 conceived the game and wrote this page; Claude Opus 5 built the single self-contained HTML file — a position-based pendulum integrated at 240 Hz substeps, bottom-up support scans for the collapses, every sound synthesized live with WebAudio oscillators. It then bot-playtested itself headless until the physics confessed, finding and fixing a pumping rule that was 90° off resonance and a building that was accidentally indestructible.

Broken level, soft-lock, wrong physics — the maker sees these.

Nothing broken so far. Suspicious, but we will take it.

Report a bug

What went wrong, and what were you doing when it did?

One line. “Level 3 soft-locks after the key.”

Optional, but a repro is a gift.
