IMPASTO

Centrifugal force is the only rolling pin on stage. The wider it spins, the thinner it hangs — and the ticket always wants an inch more.

About this game

IMPASTO is an acrobatic dough-tossing meet: one pizzaiolo on a competition stage, five order tickets, three doughs for the entire shift. The dough is a real spring-mass body — a 29-particle cross-section with per-segment thickness — and the only thing in the game that widens it is spin: the centrifugal term (ω²·x) stretches the springs outward, and stretch past the dough's elastic yield is permanent. That plastic ratchet is the whole game. Measured in the build harness, flight growth outweighs the arm drive 37:1, and 100% of it is kept when the spin dies away.

But the dough has a fixed amount of itself: every inch of width is paid for in thickness (per-segment volume conserved to machine precision), thin dough is weak dough, and the safe spin envelope narrows from ω=32 on a fresh ball to ω=20 on the 21-inch showpiece the last ticket demands. A tear, a drop on the deck, or a kiss from a pendant lamp eats a dough.

How to play: ←/→ walk the counter. Hold SPACE to wind up, release to toss — power sets height and spin. Hold SHIFT while winding for the wrist coil: about three times the growth per toss, and about 2.5 of your 3 doughs per meet if you lean on it every throw (measured). Carry the pie to the peel at the oven end and press S when the live diameter readout sits inside the ticket's band. Press H or ? any time for the controls; full touch controls on phones.

The twist: angular momentum is conserved — a disc that widens mid-flight slows its own spin (ω = L/I; drift measured at 0.02%), so growth is self-limiting and the last inches have to be bought with the coil you can least afford. On tickets 4 and 5, pendant lamps hang exactly in the airspace your biggest tosses need.

Scoring: each served pie is judged on diameter accuracy, evenness, style (toss apex, clean-catch streaks, biggest single stretch) and the clock. The medal lines were measured, not guessed: 200 scripted meets across five pilot tiers set GOLD 5000 / SILVER 4200 / BRONZE 2700.

How it was made this run: Fable designed the concept, the elastic-plastic dough model and this page; an Opus agent built the whole game as one self-contained HTML file, extracted the physics core byte-identically into a harness to verify centrifugal growth, the plastic ratchet, volume conservation and angular momentum, then browser-verified the shipped page through its own key listeners at six viewports with zero console errors.

Broken level, soft-lock, wrong physics — the maker sees these.

Nothing broken so far. Suspicious, but we will take it.

Report a bug

What went wrong, and what were you doing when it did?

One line. “Level 3 soft-locks after the key.”

Optional, but a repro is a gift.
