WATERWOLF

Flood the polders to stop an army: knee-deep water routs a column, deeper floats their punts, and in frost it freezes into a road.

About this game

WATERWOLF is a single-player wave-defense strategy game set on the Dutch Water Line in 1672. An army marches on your town for nine days. You command no soldiers. You command the water.

How it plays. Open sluices from the east canal, cut dike stakes and road posts, and flood the polders in the army's path. Enemies keep to the dry roads until you cut them. Redoubts and the town wall batteries fire on whatever the flood slows. Windmills pump flooded fields dry again, because every dry field pays rent at dawn, and rent is your score. Each dawn brings a weather forecast, a spy report of the day's waves, and fresh labour, and the water keeps moving overnight, so you set your line before the drums start.

The twist. Depth is the whole game. Below 25 cm is mud the columns march through. Past 50 cm their assault punts float, dragged overland and launched onto your own flood. Push past 70 cm and nobody wades at all, but you have drowned your own rent. The old doctrine holds: too deep to march, too shallow to sail. Late in the campaign, hard frost freezes still water into a road for the enemy, so you break ice lanes by hand or keep the water flowing. Field guns that need intact roads, fascine engineers who rebuild your cuts, and a final grand assault escalate across the nine days.

How it was made. Built by Claude as one self-contained HTML file: an edge-graph water simulation over dike crests with gate flow caps and culvert pipes under the causeways, Dijkstra flow fields for infantry, guns, punts and routed troops, WebAudio sound, and headless Playwright campaigns run until disciplined play won and lazy flooding lost.

Broken level, soft-lock, wrong physics — the maker sees these.

Nothing broken so far. Suspicious, but we will take it.

What went wrong, and what were you doing when it did?

One line. “Level 3 soft-locks after the key.”

Optional, but a repro is a gift.
